While there are over a dozen types of collagen in our bodies, Type II is the most prevalent and important one in our joint cartilage; its small diameter fibrils get oriented randomly to form rigid macromolecules which are strong, compressible, and able to resist large deformations in shape, to enable the joints to absorb shocks. But joint cartilage can get damaged, and our ability to generate it from dietary amino acids and proteins falls off as we age, which is why many are turning to supplements made from similar types of cartilage which can be broken down to furnish the raw materials to help reconstitute our own.
Type II Collagen is the only type of supplementary collagen that will help joint and cartilage regeneration. It has been combined here with MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), an organosulfur compound with several relevant benefits: helping decrease joint inflammation; helping improve flexibility; and helping restore the body's own collagen production.
Each capsule contains:
- 400 mg Hydrolyzed Collagen Type 2 (Hydrolyzed collagen, Gallus gallus - Chicken Sternal Cartilage)
- 50 mg MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane, Dimethyl sulfone)
Non- medicinal ingredients: Gelatin, Cellulose, and Magnesium Stearate.
Contains naturally occurring Chondroitin Sulfate and Hyaluronic Acid.
Amino Acid Profile:
Aspartic Acid: 5.28%
Glutamic Acid: 13.03%
Hydroxy Proline: 10.84%
Adults: Take 2 capsules 3 times per day. Use for a minimum of 5 months to see beneficial effects.
Those with particularly severe pain from osteoarthritis may want to start with as many as 9 capsules a day; when the pain is somewhat reduced, bring the dosage down to 6.
If you would prefer not to swallow that many capsules a day, you can open the capsules and add their contents to soups, savory foods or beverages where you not would mind a slight chicken odour or taste (so: probably not to coffee, tea, or sweet juices.)
Store in an airtight container away from heat and moisture.
Consult a healthcare practitioner prior to use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney or liver disease, or have been instructed to follow a low protein diet. If symptoms worsen, consult a healthcare practitioner. Some people may experience mild gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, heartburn, or vomiting; in which case, discontinue use.
